Biography & Profile

Professor A. S. M. Maksud Kamal is one of the pioneers of disaster and climate risk management in Bangladesh, with over three decades of academic, research, and applied professional experience. He obtained his Master's degree in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation from ITC, University of Twente, Netherlands, and a Doctor of Engineering (DEng) from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan.

He has worked with international organizations, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), as a disaster risk specialist, contributing to major national and regional risk reduction initiatives.

He successfully translated his extensive practical experience into academia by establishing the Department of Disaster Science and Climate Resilience (DSCR) at the University of Dhaka, where he served as the founding Chairman. Recognized for his academic leadership and professional excellence, he was later appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka.
